Megger testing through fuses, will I damage them?

Hi guys I have a question if I’m testing a switch with bolted 600V 400A fuses is it bad for me to use 1kv for the test? Will I damage them?

1kV should be fine for this application. You just want to watch out for any electronics or solid state components that may be tapped off the line. Use the Kohm range first to verify the circuit is clear. You could also start at a lower voltage and work your way up.

As SecondGen stated, understanding what is on the load side of the switch would be where the damage could occur. But simply, if you are performing a 1000VDC test on equipment rated 600VAC, you will not harm the equipment unless the manufacturer states “Do not exceed XX voltage”. You will not damage the equipment.

We can test the 400 volts, 600 volts rating equipment with 1 kV megger. We need to ensure that no active components like diodes, SCRS, IGBTs must be connected to the circuit, else at 1 kV voltage these component may fail.
